Indian Harbour Turkey Rogaine:
Thanksgiving Sunday October 12, 2008
"Alantic Raid Challenge Event

Start:
The start is nearest the town of West Dover (not Indian
Harbour!!). Take highway 333 from Halifax toward Peggys Cove.
Just after West Dover, about 4 km before Peggys Cove, is a
baseball diamond. The start is in a parking lot across the street.

Course Information:
The Peggys Cove Conservation Area is rugged glacial terrain with many
barren open areas with easy running, huge delicately perched glacial
erratics, bogs, marshes, and very thick brush. Running is often easier
parallel to the rocky ridges than perpendicular to them, so competitors
will have to choose their routes carefully. Because it is so open, you
will often see other competitors. You will also often be in sight of the
ocean. There is a lot of low brush: good cover for your legs is
essential. There will be 40 controls on the long course, all of equal
value. The novice course will have 20 controls, also all of equal value.
I have added a number of ATV trails, so the navigation should be easier
than in past meets. Moose are rare on the Chebucto peninsula but I did
see one on the course. The 2 hour novice course is significantly easier
than the 4 hour course, but still demands an ability to read a map, and
have some comfort going off trails. However, competitors do not have to
get all controls, so can easily adjust the level of difficulty to their
taste. I would be happy to email you with a pdf of the map
(but not the course) beforehand.

Pre-Registration
Desirable but not essential. Just send me a note you are coming,
ian.folkins@dal.ca, and which course you want to run.
I would like to have a general
idea of how many maps to print.

Cost (Individual/Team):
4 hour - $25.00 non OANS/ONB members, $15.00 members
- $10.00 for each additional team member

2 hour - $20.00 non OANS/ONB members, $10.00 members
- $5.00 for each additional team member

Registration:
starts at 11:00. It is strongly recommended that you come at
least 40 minutes early to plan your route choice, and have enough
time to register. People on the 2 hour novice course may register
at any time up till 2:00.

Start:
4 hour: mass start exactly at 12.00, or very soon thereafter
2 hour: can start any time between 12:00 and 2:00

There is no water on the course. Please bring your own. Whistles
are mandatory and can be purchased at the site. Safety bearing is
south. There are no washroom facilities on site. There is a gift
shop with washroom facilities in Peggy's Cove.
