Join in on the fun for Sunday's Canoe Orienteering Adventure Race or come to Pugwash for a weekend full of activities that begin on Saturday morning with boat tours, harbour golf, raft racing, volleyball, free entertainment, lobster races, tall ships etc etc. Check the Harbourfest website that will have a full 2009 schedule!! For the Sunday Canoe Orienteering, register at the yacht club parking area from 7:00-8:00 a.m.. Cost 20.00 per vessel. The start horn for a mass start will be at 8:00 sharp-sorry for the early start but we need high tide!! Plenty of prizes and draw prizes for all await the finishers! Three levels of fun to choose from:
1. Family Island Paddle: Paddle in a canoe/kayak 300 m to Victoria Island. Beach your vessel and use a map to find as many checkpoints on the Island as you can. Wear long pants as there is some poison ivy and 1 in 7 people are allergic. Paddle back to the finish.
2. Wet and Wild: Canoe/kayak to water controls --no need to leave your vessel. Use a map t navigate to the checkpoints--try not to capsize!
3. Ultimate Challenge: Find both water and land checkpoints if you DARE! Point values will be assigned to controls on the Ultimate challenge adding to the decision making in a 2.5 hour time limit.
4. Flat Out and Crazy: Do you have the need for speed? Race around Victoria Island as fast as you can! That is it! First one in is the winner! (Approx. 1200 metres)
A bottle of water will be given to each participant, free snacks after the event. A compass is optional. Mandatory equipment includes lifejacket, whistle, rope on vessel and bailer.
