World Orienteering Day is a global initiative to increase the visibility and accessibility of orienteering to young people. This World Orienteering Day event will be a Score-O with a 1 hour time limit.

A Score-O is an event where participants find as many controls as they can within the given time limit. Controls can be collected in any order. Many controls will be placed in easy-to-find locations throughout the main public area of the park. Several harder controls will be located off-trail for the more adventurous participants! Penalty points are deducted for participants who return to the finish after their time limit expires. Participants do not need to visit every control.

Dick James:

Dick James was a founding member of the Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia and a past Board member of the Canadian Orienteering (now Orienteering Canada). His passion for Orienteering was reflected in the thousands of hours he devoted to growing the sport over the years.

Dick had a keen interest in supporting and developing junior orienteers. As a result, proceeds from the Dick James Memorial are donated to junior development.

This year, Orienteering Nova Scotia is super proud to have a member, Sophie Kent-Purcell, representing Canada at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Czech Republic this summer!! Event proceeds will go to support Sophie in this endeavor, and will be matched by Orienteering Nova Scotia. We thank you for your contribution.
